Back in January, I mentioned how Brent and I were getting ready to transition Jude to his new big boy room and most importantly to his new big boy bed. At the time, I was a bit nervous about not having him sleep in his crib, where our routine was so familiar and where he was so contained.
Well, I can say with 2 weeks until my due date for Baby Brother, our little Jude has officially become a Big Boy who is a CHAMP at sleeping in his big boy bed! Whew, am I thankful… and relieved!
On the day that his bed was made for the first time, I was surprised to see just how excited Jude was to sleep there. It was like he somehow knew, “Hey, I’m growing up and this new room and bed is a big deal.” For a while that morning, he actually found it entertaining to pretend to sleep in his big boy bed. He would climb up with his favorite blankie, ask me to turn on his “sleepy mumix” (lullabies we play every night), and then ask me to pray. I would tuck him, give him a kiss, and then he would actually pretend to sleep. About 2 minutes later, he would pop up and come running to find me and say, “Good morning, Mommy!” And a few minutes later, we’d do it all again! I was definitely encouraged!
So, that night, after having moved all of his toys over and having played in there all day, we took the plunge! And I’m not gonna lie, he probably climbed out of bed at least 10 times, and it probably took a good hour for him to settle down and actually sleep, but when he did, he was out! Just look at this picture from his first night! (Click on the picture to see a non-blurry version!)
Needless to say, we are super proud of him. Naptimes, though, have been a bit more challenging to have him actually stay in the bed. I think with it being daylight, he just notices all the toys he’d like to play with and decides that’s what he’ll do instead of sleep. But, really for the last week or so, Brent and I have hardly had to return to his room to put him back to bed, whether naptime or bedtime.
Overall, Jude seems to love his new room and is even playing more in there than he ever did in his baby room. In fact, when we go in Baby Brother’s room, he doesn’t even talk about it being his former room. He just says how the crib is Baby Brother’s bed, and he notices all of Baby Brother’s new things.
I am just so thankful because I feel like the Lord really gave Jude a heart for his new room and bed. I was so nervous about the whole transition and once again, God has taken my silly fears and reminded me of how good it is to trust Him!
“Blessed be the Lord, because He has heard the voice of my supplication.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him.”
Here is a sweet naptime picture =)
