Getting Ready for Baby Boy #2

There has been a lot going on around the Moore household lately.  Mainly, we are getting ready for the arrival of a new little one in just 8 weeks!  In some ways I can’t believe that the countdown is now in the single digits of weeks remaining, but in other ways it feels like I have been pregnant for SO LONG!  Not that I can complain… it’s been a very good pregnancy.

Preparing Our Firstborn
One of the things Brent and I have been up to around here is getting Jude’s big boy bedroom ready to go.  We’ve got big boy furniture for him and most importantly, a big boy bed.  He has been so content sleeping in his crib this whole time and has never tried to climb out, so we’ve never transitioned him to a twin bed.  (He’s 2.5 years old).  But we definitely need to start that process soon.  Once Brent and I get our stuff out of there (books off of Jude’s shelves, Brent’s Star Wars collectibles from Jude’s closet, etc, etc…) we’ve got to move all of Jude’s toys over and get him sleeping in there.

I definitely want him to feel like and know that this new room is HIS room, and that when baby brother comes, he’s not just taking over Jude’s space.  So… must start that this week!!  I’ve gotta admit, though, I’m a bit nervous.  I just hope he doesn’t crawl out of bed a million times in the learning process.  God, help!  As you can see from the picture, we’re not quite ready for Jude to move in just yet!  Hopefully, I’ll be able to post an amazing “After” photo in the next few weeks!

Finishing Sewing Projects
I’ve also been finishing up lots of sewing and embroidery projects.  That’s one of the things I am loving these days!  I had tons of Christmas gifts that I had so much fun making, and this month I’ve been working on some baby gifts for friends who are having their own little ones enter the world.  I’ve loved making all of their gifts, but I have several things in the back of my mind that I want to make for our little guy before he arrives.  So, I’m looking forward to doing that and trying to find the time to squeeze it all in.  Here are a few of my faves that I’ve recently finished up.

Getting My Own Heart Ready
On top of all that, I’ve just been doing a lot of thinking about motherhood in general.  Of course, I love my little darling Jude and am ready to love our second when he arrives, but if you’re a mom, you know how demanding a job it is, how mundane it can all become, and how little recognition you get for all your hard work!  I admit, in the last several months, I have struggled with being content with this season of my life.

I found that my thoughts have been very inward-focused, my heart has been a bit resentful in serving my family, and my attitude has not been very joyful. Ugh!

In an effort to find some encouragement, I began scouring the Desiring God website and blog (a ministry of John Piper’s).   And because God is so gracious to me and loves me and is so faithful to making me like Christ, He plopped down this post before my very eyes that has rocked my world for the last 2 weeks.  You have got to click on the link and read it.  It’s a post by Rachel Jankovic who blogs at  (No, I do not know her personally at all, but am totally recommending her to you because I was so encouraged by this one post!)  It’s called “Motherhood is a Calling (And Where Your Children Rank).”

I won’t take the time right now to summarize it, but if you are struggling with dying to yourself as it relates to motherhood, read the post!!  In the next few posts on this blog, I am excited to share with you how God is beginning to transform my thoughts and perspective as I serve my little one (and even my husband), based off of what I learned from that blog and of course, the Bible.  Also, if you follow my “Motherhood” board on Pinterest, I’ve pinned other helpful resources that I have or hope to glean wisdom from.

  1. Hi there! Just stumbled upon this blog post when I needed it most. It has been a tough day in the trenches of parenthood today and through blurry eyes your words resonated with me about not getting recognition and struggling to be content in this season of life. I also went to the desiring God post and again more blurry vision from tears knowing once again God led me to right where I needed to be. Thank you! Also, congratulations on the new addition! I too have a little Luke ( “Bringer of Light”) :-). I need to remember that on days like these when that little 3 yr old booger really pushes mama to the limit. Enjoy those sweet baby snuggles and God bless!

    1. Kim, I am so glad that you somehow found your way here and that you found some encouragement! I love how God can use the world wide web in that way! Did you see my post that shared how I processed the Desiring God post? It’s right here: Thanks for the congratulations. I can’t believe he’s already 10 months! I hope you have a better week of mothering as you renew your mind with truth! Lots of love!

      1. Courtney, thanks so much for replying to this frazzled mama! I did read your post and keeping that all in mind had a much better week (even though the kiddos were sick.) You have a gift of being able to connect with others through the written word. I didn’t look at the date of the post and thought Luke’s birth was more recent when I congratulated you. I have since looked around your site. You have two very handsome little men! Super adorable! I also just noticed you are from TN as well. We live 20 minutes south of Franklin around Spring Hill! Haha, I was imagining you were in Texas or somewhere, but no you are much closer than I thought, lol. Thanks again for the encouragement. I might have to pop back in some time. Blessings 🙂
